Mrs. Mai Thi My Hanh currently resides in Me Pu Commune, Binh Thuan Province. She gets support from the Thien Chi Center in Duc Linh. She has a husband and three children. Her husband's health is not good; he is often sick. Mrs. Hanh herself suffers from spinal spurs, herniated discs, and functional bowel disorders, making it difficult for her to engage in heavy labor. While both husband and wife are unwell, their children are pursuing their education.
In July 2021, Thien Chi supported Mrs. Hanh in implementing a pig farming model as part of a project. Initially, she started with two piglets for breeding, intending to raise them to maturity. When the mother pig gave birth, Mrs. Hanh would sell the piglets, keeping some to raise for meat. Despite fluctuating pig prices, the successful breeding of Mrs. Hanh's pigs increased the family income. In early 2023, her breeding sow gave birth to 14 piglets, which were eventually sold for 50 million VND after deducting expenses. Mrs. Hanh earned a profit of 14 million VND. Later this year, the mother pig gave birth to 13 more piglets, 10 of which were sold for 10 million VND. The remaining 3 were kept and raised, currently weighing nearly 50kg each.
Before engaging in pig farming, the average monthly income was 657,000 VND per person, per month. After two years, it has increased to 1,125,000 VND. Although the income increase is not substantial, it has improved the family's living conditions.
Benefiting from the success of pig farming, Mrs. Hanh has continued to expand her pig farming venture, focusing on breeding sows. Currently, two pregnant sows are expected, with one due in a week and another two months away. The family's financial situation has become more stable and Mrs. Hanh's health has improved, as she no longer has to engage in strenuous work. This has allowed her to provide better care for her family and support her children's education.
