The Situation of Phạm Văn Xuân
Phạm Văn Xuân, born in 2010, is currently in the 9th grade and lives in Phú Sum Hamlet, Hàm Mỹ Commune, Hàm Thuận Nam District, Bình Thuận Province. Xuân is the eldest son in a family of four siblings, living with his parents and 86-year-old grandmother in a deteriorating single-story house. The family is facing significant financial difficulties.
Xuân's father, Phạm Văn Sang, born in 1982, suffers from several serious health conditions including tuberculosis, hyperthyroidism, and heart disease. Due to financial constraints, he lacks health insurance and relies on medication to manage his conditions. In 2023, the Thiện Chí Center provided health insurance support for him, but his health issues persist, preventing him from doing heavy work.
Xuân's mother, Lương Thị Thu Trang, born in 1988, works hard to support the family. She does cleaning work at a daycare and receives rice and instant noodles from local church sources. They own 1 sao (1,000 square meters) of dragon fruit and some coconut trees, but the income from these sources is insufficient to cover their living expenses.
The family also raises two cows, one given by the grandfather and one recently purchased. They are currently short of 5 million VND to complete the purchase of the cow. The family’s average income is only between 400,000 VND and 500,000 VND per person per month, making their daily life very challenging.
Despite these hardships, Xuân remains diligent in his studies. Although his health is not the best, he is very eager to learn and strives to overcome difficulties to achieve good academic performance. The family hopes to receive support from the community to help Xuân have better educational opportunities. Specifically, they need 300,000 VND per month to buy educational materials and additional tutoring for Xuân. This support will help Xuân continue his efforts in education and overcome the family’s difficult circumstances.
