Future for you #60: Trần Thị Tiểu Vy

The family of Trần Thị Tiểu Vy currently resides in Thôn 3, Hàm Cần Commune, Hàm Thuận Nam, Bình Thuận Province. The family consists of seven people and is classified as a near-poor household in the area, facing numerous difficulties. With only 2 sào (about 2,000 square meters) of land for growing corn and two buffaloes, their main income comes from labor work. Vy's parents and her brother Trường usually do weeding and tree planting for the forestry company, earning between 200,000 to 250,000 VND per day. However, their work is unstable as the forestry company does not always have consistent work, making the family’s income precarious.

Her brother Sơn, instead of doing labor work, herds buffaloes for others and is paid with one young buffalo per year. Thanks to this, the family now owns two buffaloes. Another brother, Khoe, recently joined the military, while her sister Thy and Tiểu Vy are still studying in boarding school, in grades 9 and 6, respectively, at the ethnic boarding school in the district.

A few months ago, the family faced a major challenge when their house was destroyed by a storm. Due to financial hardship, they are unable to rebuild the house. Currently, they live in a makeshift house made of tin walls to shield themselves from the rain and sun. In response to this situation, the commune’s local authorities have been working to mobilize support from benefactors to help the family rebuild their home.

However, the costs related to Tiểu Vy’s education are still a significant challenge, and the family hopes that the Project can find a way to support her.
