Medical support #24: Nguyễn Thị Dung

The family of Nguyễn Thị Dung currently lives in Thôn 3, Hàm Cần Commune, Hàm Thuận Nam, Bình Thuận. This family of six is classified as near-poor and is facing numerous difficulties. They own 500 dragon fruit trees and two buffaloes as their main assets, but these are not sufficient to cover their living expenses. The eldest son had to drop out of school to help his parents care for the dragon fruit garden. Additionally, he works as a laborer, earning 200,000 VND per day, but the work is irregular. The family has four children, with three of them attending grades 10, 8, and 6.

In 2023, due to severe deterioration of their house, which leaked during the rain, the family was forced to sell three buffaloes to fund the repairs. However, the challenges did not stop there. A few months ago, the mother was unexpectedly diagnosed with rectal cancer. Due to their financial constraints, the family had to sell the remaining two buffaloes to cover her medical treatment.

Currently, the cost of her treatment continues to rise, requiring two check-ups each month, amounting to over 5 million VND. The father has to stay home to care for his wife, leaving only the eldest son to work as a laborer and manage the dragon fruit garden, which has further depleted the family’s finances. Meanwhile, their three younger children are starting a new school year, increasing the financial burden. Therefore, the family sincerely hopes to receive support from benefactors and the Project.
