Đỗ Nguyễn Minh Khang, born in 2012, is currently a 7th-grade student in Dan Thuan Hamlet, Ham Thanh Commune, Lam Dong Province. He is the second son of Ms. Nguyễn Thị Trẻo. Since infancy, Khang’s health has been fragile. At eight months old, after frequent illnesses, he was taken to Children’s Hospital where doctors discovered that he not only had a congenital heart defect but also a rare blood disorder.
In the early years, Khang needed check-ups only twice a year. However, as he grew older, his condition worsened, requiring monthly blood transfusions along with additional medications not covered by health insurance. The treatment costs average about 2 million VND (80 USD) per month, excluding travel and meals. To date, expenses for his treatment have exceeded 200 million VND, mostly borrowed by his mother.
With no farmland for livelihood, his mother works as a hired laborer to support Khang and his brother’s schooling. The family’s situation is extremely difficult, and Khang urgently needs community support to continue his treatment, maintain his health, and pursue his education like other children.
