Phương is one of four children in the family of Mrs. Lộc and Mr. Nghĩa, who live in Hamlet 8, Nam Chính Commune. Her family faces many difficulties, relying mainly on small-scale garment work and three sào of rice fields for food.

Due to financial hardship, her parents are constantly working to provide for their family of eight, leaving little time to notice the subtle signs of their children’s needs. Phương had long struggled with vision problems—squinting and experiencing eye strain while studying—but her family could not afford an eye examination.

Fortunately, during the 2024–2025 school year, Thiện Chí Center organized a free eye screening program at her school. Through this program, Phương was diagnosed with nearsightedness and received a pair of prescription glasses at no cost.

The moment she received the glasses, her eyes lit up with joy. Holding them close, she exclaimed:

"Miss, I can see so clearly now! I really love these glasses!"

The new glasses opened up a clearer, brighter world for Phương. No longer struggling to read or study, she could now engage more confidently in both her studies and daily life. Her dream of continuing her education and exploring new knowledge was once again within reach.

For her family, this gift was truly meaningful. Her father, Mr. Nghĩa, once said:

"Our eyes are the windows to the soul. Without sight, life becomes dull and unclear."

Thus, the timely diagnosis and support Phương received not only aided her learning but also protected her future and nurtured the dreams still growing inside her.

In the midst of hardship, that simple pair of glasses brought light, hope, and renewed faith to Phương and her family.

Detecting refractive errors in primary school students plays a vital role in protecting and developing children's vision. At this age, their eyes are still in the process of maturing. If refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness) or astigmatism are not identified and corrected in time, they may lead to serious consequences like permanent vision loss, which can significantly affect a child’s learning ability and overall development. Early detection allows timely intervention through appropriate eyewear or vision training, helping children study more effectively and improving their quality of life.
