In order to promote environmentally friendly livestock practices and help farmers improve their income, on October 16, Thien Chi Center organized a study visit for local households to learn about the Biochar eco-friendly pig farming model at Ms. Lien’s household in Nam Thanh Commune, Lam Dong Province.

Ms. Lien’s Biochar pig pen model is designed and operated with a focus on safety, sustainability, and environmental protection. It uses a biological bedding layer combined with biochar to effectively treat animal waste.

During the visit, participants observed the feeding, waste treatment, and pen management process firsthand. They highly appreciated the model for its many practical benefits, such as:
• Being environmentally friendly and preventing pollution.
• Saving electricity, water, and labor, thereby reducing operating costs.
• Eliminating odors, ensuring hygiene and health for both farmers and nearby residents.
• Allowing pigs to grow and gain weight normally, comparable to traditional farming.
• Generating additional income from selling biochar fertilizer after each production cycle.

The visit provided an opportunity for farmers to exchange experiences, learn from each other, and discuss the potential for replication. By the end of the session, several households had registered to adopt the Biochar model, showing their trust in its effectiveness.

Thien Chi Center hopes that through this activity, the Biochar eco-friendly pig farming model will be widely replicated, contributing to sustainable rural economic development and environmental protection.
