Field Assessments – Connecting Donors with Disadvantaged Students

As the new school year approaches, Thien Chi Center begins its annual visits to communities and households to assess the circumstances of disadvantaged students eligible for scholarships. This meaningful activity helps ensure that scholarships are awarded fairly, transparently, and to the students who need them most.

During each visit, project staff and community volunteers meet directly with families to better understand their financial situation, living conditions, and the educational journeys of their children. Every home tells a different story, yet they all share the same hope—to continue learning and build a brighter future through education.

These field assessments provide the Center with a comprehensive and objective understanding of each student's circumstances while serving as an important bridge between generous donors and hardworking students facing financial hardship. The information collected enables the Center to carefully evaluate applications and allocate scholarships accurately, ensuring that support reaches the right students according to their actual needs.

For donors, the assessment process demonstrates the transparency, accountability, and integrity of the scholarship program. Every contribution is transformed into meaningful educational opportunities, helping ease families' financial burdens while encouraging students to stay in school, pursue their dreams, and build confidence in their future.

More than a selection process, these visits are also opportunities to share encouragement, compassion, and hope with families in need. Each scholarship represents not only financial assistance but also a message of care, trust, and belief in students who are striving to overcome adversity through education.

Guided by the principle "Supporting the Right Students – Meeting the Right Needs – Spreading Compassion," Thien Chi Center remains committed to accompanying disadvantaged students on their educational journey and helping their dreams take flight in the new school year.

For many rural families, raising a child with developmental delays, speech delays, or autism spectrum disorder is not only an emotional challenge but also a long-term financial burden. As specialized intervention services are often concentrated in major cities, many families must travel long distances to access support, facing high transportation costs, treatment expenses, and lost income due to time away from work. As a result, some parents are forced to delay or even forgo early intervention because it is beyond their financial means.

These difficulties may cause them to become withdrawn, frustrated, or struggle to participate fully in school and community life.
