Lê Thị Phương Duyên, born in 2002 in Thuận Nam Town, Bình Thuận Province, is the daughter of a hardworking family with four siblings. Her father is a carpenter, and her mother takes care of the household and manages a dragon fruit farm with 500 vines. Despite their financial struggles, Duyên’s parents worked tirelessly to support their children’s education, often having to borrow money to cover tuition fees. Deeply aware of her family’s difficulties, Duyên was determined to study hard to ease the burden on her parents.

However, the mounting costs of supporting multiple children in school became overwhelming for her parents, Anh Dũng and Chị Liên. In response, they turned to the Thiện Chí Center for assistance. Understanding their situation, the center provided Duyên with a loan of nearly 30 million VND to help cover her university fees while she pursued a degree in Marketing.

In September 2024, Duyên successfully graduated, marking a significant milestone and bringing immense joy to her and her family. During her final-year internship, she also managed to secure a job at a company, further paving the way for her future.

Duyên’s story is a powerful source of inspiration for students facing challenging circumstances. Her journey proves that with determination and effort, success is possible, even in the face of adversity.

We started working with children with special educational needs in 2008. At that time, we focused on capacity building for primary school teachers and established the "Hạnh Phúc" intervention room, where children with difficulties in school received support with life skills and learning outside of regular classroom hours. In 2012, we began visiting individual families to teach children literacy and numeracy and organized group sessions on social skills, a program known as the "Community Learning Box." In 2017, we initiated direct intervention at the center for hearing-impaired children—this served as a precursor to our current intervention program where parents bring their children to the center weekly. In 2018, we joined the "Narrowing the Gap" program of LIN and secured funding to begin "early intervention"

One afternoon, we visited the family of Trần Đức Phương Trinh. Both her mother and Trinh recognized us immediately, even though many years had passed since our last meeting. Her approachable demeanor and familiar face stood out on the now 19-year-old girl. Trinh had been part of the special education intervention program since 2013. She had learning difficulties and tongue-tie, causing her to have a speech impediment. Every time we had conversations during the intervention, she would drool, and her hands would always sweat. She struggled to write each letter and to pronounce every syllable, making her efforts heartwarming and inspiring.

But that day, when I visited her home, it was different from all the other times. There she was, with a fresh, cheerful, and lively face.

Mr. Hoàng An Hải - Đông Hà: "Without health insurance, I was always worried, afraid of getting sick. Every time I got sick, I tried to push through, but the more I worried, the worse the illness became. Whenever I got sick, I would buy some painkillers just to get by. Many times, I didn’t dare go for a check-up, fearing they’d discover more illnesses. I sincerely thank the Center for providing me with health insurance."
