Mai Vy's Journey: Overcoming Hardships to Achieve Her Dream of University

08/01/2025 Views: 392

Mai Vy is an exemplary student throughout her 12 years of schooling. For many consecutive years, she has consistently achieved excellent academic results. Looking at her petite and fair appearance, no one would think that she has endured a difficult life, lacking the love and care of her parents.

Vy’s parents separated when she was only 3 months old due to conflicts. They left her in the care of her grandparents without providing any financial support. Besides Vy, her cousin, Chiến (born with a congenital disability and bedridden since birth, now 5 years old), also faces a similar situation. Chiến’s parents also separated, leaving him to be raised by Vy’s grandparents.

Vy’s family lives in a rented house costing 1 million VND per month. The family’s livelihood depends on her grandmother’s daily sales of food and beverages at the market. After school, Vy helps take care of her cousin and assists her grandmother in preparing goods for the market. During the summer, Vy works at dragon fruit farms or helps out at coffee shops. Vy shared that seeing her grandparents struggling motivates her to find jobs to earn extra income and prepare for December 2024, when she will start studying at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City, majoring in English Linguistics.

Her annual tuition fee is estimated to be 30 million VND, and her university program will last four years. To help realize Vy’s dream, Thiện Chí Center has provided partial financial support for her education. It is hoped that Vy will achieve her dreams and make valuable contributions to society.
