During his time volunteering with Thien Chi Center, Lucas had the opportunity to participate in, observe, and experience a wide range of meaningful community development activities under the Duc Linh Project. By accompanying project staff and community workers on field visits, he gained a deeper understanding of how the programs are implemented and the positive impact they have on local communities.

Lucas observed the production of Biochar organic fertilizer, learning about the composting process and how this model helps improve soil quality, protect the environment, and promote sustainable agriculture.

He also visited families participating in the microcredit program, where he listened to their stories about using small loans to develop livelihoods and improve their living conditions. In addition, he visited a local quilting group to better understand the value of traditional handicrafts and the role they play in creating income opportunities for women.

Lucas joined community staff in visiting scholarship recipients and conducting scholarship assessments for the upcoming school year. These visits helped him better understand the students' family circumstances and the assessment process used to identify those most in need of educational support.

He also volunteered to help weed gardens for households with limited labor, sharing the workload while experiencing daily rural life alongside local families.

As part of the special education program, Lucas observed intervention sessions and supported community staff in interactive games and learning activities with children. This experience strengthened his appreciation for the importance of providing children with special needs a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

In addition, Lucas attended a health training session for women participating in the microcredit program. He found the session valuable in promoting knowledge and awareness of personal, family, and community health.

Through these experiences, Lucas gained a deeper appreciation of community development work while building meaningful connections with local people. His enthusiasm, openness, and willingness to learn contributed to many memorable moments throughout his volunteer journey with Thien Chi Center.
