Nguyen Van Khoa is currently a third-grade student at Ham Cuong 2 Primary School. Born into a struggling family, Khoa also suffers from congenital heart disease. Although he has undergone surgery before, his family cannot afford regular check-ups and follow-ups. Whenever Khoa feels weak or in pain, they can only buy medicine from a nearby shop to help him temporarily cope.

Khoa’s family is in extreme hardship. His grandmother, Ha Thi Thuy, has diabetes and a brain tumor but cannot afford surgery. His grandfather, Nguyen Van Sau, has lost the ability to work and relies on government support. Khoa’s father, Nguyen Chi Cuong, developed a mental illness after his wife left, making him unable to work or care for his children.
Khoa’s older sister, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diem, is in fifth grade at Ham Cuong 2 Primary School. She currently walks to school because it is close to home. However, next year she will enter sixth grade, and the school will be farther away. The family hopes to receive a bicycle so that she can travel to school on her own.
His younger brother, Nguyen Van Khoi, is attending Ham Cuong Kindergarten, where the family needs to pay approximately 500,000 VND per month for his meals.
Despite these challenges, Khoa has remained determined to attend school over the years, even though his family has very limited resources. Their only income is 12 million VND per year from renting out their dragon fruit orchard, which barely covers basic living expenses and the needs of the three children. Due to financial difficulties, the family hopes to receive a monthly scholarship of 300,000 VND for Khoa, enabling him to continue his education and pursue his dream of a brighter future.
