Mr. Hoàng An Hải - Đông Hà:

"Without health insurance, I was always worried, afraid of getting sick. Every time I got sick, I tried to push through, but the more I worried, the worse the illness became. Whenever I got sick, I would buy some painkillers just to get by. Many times, I didn’t dare go for a check-up, fearing they’d discover more illnesses. I sincerely thank the Center for providing me with health insurance."

Ms. Nguyễn Thị Hân - Trà Tân:

"I had severe back pain and went for a check-up, and the doctors found water retention in my kidney. They advised surgery, but I couldn’t afford it because I didn’t have health insurance. Without health insurance, the surgery costs would be too high for me to handle. Day and night, I worried about how to get the money to buy health insurance for the kidney surgery. I endured the pain, postponing my appointments, not daring to go for a check-up. I prayed that the illness wouldn’t get worse, because my family is struggling and can’t afford health insurance. Thank you to the Center for helping me get health insurance."

Ms. Nguyễn Thị Sương - Mê Pu:

"I suffer from high blood pressure and joint pain in my shoulders and knees, which keeps me up all night. On top of that, I was constantly worried about not having enough money to buy health insurance. Without it, whenever the pain became unbearable, I had to buy some temporary relief from the pharmacy. I just want health insurance so I can get proper treatment without spending too much. Day and night, I worried about how I could get money for health insurance to go for timely check-ups. I endured the pain and kept delaying my visits, not daring to go for a check-up. I always prayed my condition wouldn’t get worse. Thank you so much for helping me with health insurance. I’m deeply grateful."

Ms. Nguyễn Thị Thúy Hằng - Mê Pu:

"Whenever we had money, it went to cover my children's school expenses. I know I have back pain, but I’ve never gone for a check-up because we didn’t have money. Without health insurance, I was always anxious and afraid of getting sick. Every time I fell ill, I just tried to push through, but the more I worried, the worse it became. Whenever I got sick, I would just buy some painkillers to manage the symptoms. Many times, I didn’t dare go for a check-up, fearing they’d find more issues. Thank you to the Center for helping me with health insurance. I feel much more at ease now."

Ms. Trương Thị Mừng - Mê Pu:

"My back pain was unbearable, but I had to keep pushing through to earn money. The more I worked, the worse it got. When I made some profit from my small business, I used it to cover my children’s school costs. My back hurt so much, but I didn’t dare go for a check-up because we didn’t have money. Without health insurance, I was constantly anxious, afraid of being sick or having multiple illnesses. Many nights I wondered how I could find the money to buy health insurance, get treated, and stay healthy to take care of my family and my children’s education. I’m deeply grateful to the Center for providing me with health insurance."

When speaking with the mother, we learned that her child faced challenges in participating at school and exhibited behaviors that made it difficult for the school to accept him. After consulting a doctor, the child was diagnosed with pervasive developmental disorder and delayed language development. His vocabulary was very limited, and his speech was unclear. He would cry and scream persistently when something displeased him and often said, “Oh no.” When he wanted something, he would pull someone’s hand and point, leaving strangers unable to understand him. The child’s developmental level was assessed to be equivalent to 19 months old.

We started working with children with special educational needs in 2008. At that time, we focused on capacity building for primary school teachers and established the "Hạnh Phúc" intervention room, where children with difficulties in school received support with life skills and learning outside of regular classroom hours. In 2012, we began visiting individual families to teach children literacy and numeracy and organized group sessions on social skills, a program known as the "Community Learning Box." In 2017, we initiated direct intervention at the center for hearing-impaired children—this served as a precursor to our current intervention program where parents bring their children to the center weekly. In 2018, we joined the "Narrowing the Gap" program of LIN and secured funding to begin "early intervention"
