Ms. Lộc and Mr. Nghĩa’s family currently resides in Hamlet 8, Nam Chính Commune. They do not own any farmland and have a household of eight members: the couple, an elderly mother, Ms. Lộc’s sister, and their four children.Ms. Lộc works as a laborer at Mr. Đồn’s company, but the nature of her job has led to her suffering from stomach pain and vestibular disorders.
Mr. Nghĩa works as a construction worker, but the work is not regular. He suffers from spinal pain and has eye problems; he underwent surgery at the Eye Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City a year ago. He needs to go for monthly check-ups, which are costly, and his vision is still blurred, so he has not been able to return to work.
The main income for the family comes from Mr. Nghĩa’s construction work and Ms. Lộc’s factory job. Ms. Sáu, Mr. Nghĩa’s sister, stays home to care for their elderly mother and handle household chores. The family faces many difficulties, especially with raising and educating their children. Their average monthly income is only 892,000 VND for eight people over 12 months.
One hardship piles upon another. The family struggles to afford basic necessities, let alone medical expenses and the educational costs of their three children. The family hopes for the kindness of benefactors to provide a scholarship of 300,000 VND per month for Trần Nguyễn Huỳnh Như, a student in class 8A at Nguyễn Khuyến Secondary School, to help her continue attending school.
