With her radiant smile, Ms. Liền is busy preparing for a special day: her family is selling their very first batch of pigs raised using an eco-bedding model made from rice husks and biochar.
At the beginning, many people said she was “too daring.” Traditional pigsties were already clean—just bathe the pigs daily, they said—why bother with messy husks and black charcoal? Yet, Ms. Liền firmly followed the guidance of Thien Chi Center staff. She believed this model could reduce pollution, save labor, and raise healthier, faster-growing pigs.

Her trust paid off. On July 24, she sold 8 pigs weighing a total of 786 kg. At 65,000 VND/kg, the income reached 51,090,000 VND. After deducting feed, veterinary medicine, and biochar costs, she earned a net profit of 13,895,000 VND. The time once spent bathing pigs, she now uses for house-cleaning jobs to earn extra money.
Beyond the income, the pigs grew strong, with firmer and tastier meat. The eco-bedding kept the pigsty clean, reduced odors, and made the living environment fresher.
Ms. Liền’s smile is not only her personal joy but also proof that sustainable farming works—encouraging other farmers to adopt this new model. She is now expanding her eco-friendly pigsties for the next batch.
