Overcoming Challenges – Ms. Liên’s Family in Hoài Đức Commune

Ms. Liên’s family in Hoài Đức Commune currently has five members. They rely on 3 sào of vegetable garden land and 2 sào of rice fields for their livelihood. In addition, the family raises two adult cows supported by the government and one newborn calf.

The family still faces many difficulties. Their eldest daughter is married but suffers from joint disease, which limits her mobility, so she has returned to live with her parents for care and treatment. The second son has intellectual disabilities and cannot work to support the family; he is currently attending vocational training to become more independent in the future. The youngest son is in grade 10, and his education and daily living expenses are a significant burden.

Although the family works hard and has agricultural land, poor soil quality results in low productivity, keeping their income limited. Previously, the center supported them with 50kg of Biochar organic fertilizer from an ecological pig farming model, which has shown initial improvements in crop growth.

To improve their livelihood and increase productivity on their vegetable and rice fields, Ms. Liên’s family has registered to purchase an additional 300kg of Biochar organic fertilizer for the upcoming season. They hope this will help boost yields, increase income, gradually stabilize their lives, and cover daily and educational expenses for their children.
