Ms. Lê Thị Kim Thái lives in Hamlet 1, Mepu Commune, Đức Linh District, Bình Thuận Province. Her household consists of five members: her and her husband, her elderly mother, and two young school-aged children.
The family owns 2 sào (720 m²) of rice fields and 2 sào of cashew trees. Due to the limited land for farming, their primary income comes from the couple's wage labor. Ms. Thái works at weddings, while her husband takes on any job he can find. However, both of them are in poor health. Ms. Thái suffers from a herniated disc, and although doctors recommended surgery, they cannot afford it, so she relies on herbal medicine. Her husband, Mr. Lê Đức Huy, has arthritis in his knees, causing frequent pain and swelling down to his feet. Consequently, they do not have much wage labor work, leading to financial difficulties.
The house they currently live in is a 24-square-meter makeshift house made of wooden planks and corrugated iron. It is cramped, damp, and old. When it rains, water floods into the house, and strong winds threaten to collapse it. Therefore, the local government has provided 45,000,000 VND to help build a new house. The couple borrowed money from relatives and the bank to contribute. The Thiện Chí Center also supported the family to improve the house.
In April 2024, the house was completed. The Thiện Chí Center, in cooperation with the local government, provided the family with 12,000,000 VND. The family now has a new house that protects them from the elements and offers better living conditions. They are incredibly happy to have a new home.
